“I’m reading my Bible. No, really. I am!”
Last time you saw someone staring intently at their iPhone, periodically tapping at it, your first thought was they must be reading their Bible, making notes and sharing verses. Right? No, I didn’t think so. … But, why not? With literally millions of devices already holding a digital Bible the likelihood that people will read and interact with the word of God is increasing at an exponential...
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not...
– Today’s reading from the M’Cheyne One Year Reading Plan is Numbers 14, Psalms 50, Isaiah 3, Isaiah 4, and Hebrews 11.
One of my favourite verses since childhood. It is the first I took to heart and the first I knew would make more sense as I grew into adulthood.

Bible, phone, or both?
There are few who would disagree that new technologies, mobile applications, and social media networks pervade the everyday experience of many peoples’ lives and are changing the way most of us do life in general. Recently, I conducted a survey to find out about how and why people are using Bible apps on their smart phone or mobile device. Also, to discover what impact it may be having on their...

I love reading, though I realise I am not a fast reader. I’ve wondered why this is because I do not have difficulty reading and understanding; I have a reasonable vocabulary and I’ve been...

I use my phone as a torch
… and I am not alone! Over one million people on Facebook use their phone as a torch (or flashlight, for our American friends). Why? There are plenty of times I find myself needing light, like when dashing to the car at night or scrounging for keys in the dark, cavernous depths of my handbag.
If you’re like me, you don’t like walking in the dark. I like to see at least a few paces ahead...

Jesus, Saviour, pilot me over life’s tempestuous sea; unknown waves before me roll, hiding rock and treacherous shoal. Chart and compass come from thee; Jesus, Saviour, pilot me.
As a mother stills her child, thou canst hush the ocean wild; boisterous waves obey thy will, when thou sayest to them, “Be still!” Wondrous sov’reign of the sea, Jesus, Saviour, pilot me.
When at last I near the shore,...

Paul in Rome
When Paul arrived in Rome - under the chains of a prisoner - the local Jews were not particularly hostile toward him. Certainly, they had heard the Christian ‘sect’ being spoken against, but they were keen to hear from Paul. They gave him opportunity, too.
I can just imagine how his lodgings must have quickly become overcrowded as each day passed and word spread. Increasing numbers of...

Bible Reading Plan: Days 15 - 21
I’ve sat through far too may occupational health and workplace safety presentations to have missed this one!
With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight vision we can easily accuse Sarah (and Abraham!) of having no faith. But, really, wouldn’t we laugh too?
What is the lesson here? That God provides? That we should always remain faithful in giving? Both?
It may seem strange to...

Similar, But Not The Same
Bible Reading Plan: Days 13-14
I remember reading and pondering on these chapters in Acts a few years ago. My thoughts then were about how various European explorers landed on various tropical islands and were thought to be gods. These explorers took advantage of the situation, enjoying the best of everything that was offered to them. Paul and Barnabas refused such adoration and worship. That...

Bible Reading Plan: Day 11
It’s not just our bodies that need rest, our souls find rest in one place: Jesus.

Where do you want you heart to be? Try placing your treasure there and your heart will surely follow. Remember, a treasure is much more than money, gold or silver. How do you spend your time?

Bible Reading Plan: Day 3
I’m loving the balance of Old and New Testament readings. It’s fun diving straight into Ezra and the rebuilding of the Temple whilst also exploring the activities of the early church.

Jesus tells us to seek His kingdom as our first priority and that the rest of our daily needs will follow (Matthew 6:31-34). That’s my new year attitude.

New Year, New Bible Reading Plan
Last year I made my way through the Life Application Study Bible Devotion, aligned to the New Living Translation, and made freely available by YouVersion. I enjoyed the variety of verses highlighted by this plan, but for 2012 I am keen to follow a more challenging reading plan. Hence, I began the M’Cheyne One Year Reading Plan on the 1st January, 2012. I like the ease of using YouVersion...

Der Freund - The Friend (excerpt)
Not only the ripening fruit, but also the flowers are beautiful.
Whether the fruit serves the flower or the flower the fruit only — who knows?
Yet both are given to us. Costly, rare blooms — sprung from the freedom of the playful, brave, and trusting spirit in a happy hour — such is the friend to the friend.
Playful, at first, on the far journeys of the spirit, into wonderful, distant...
